Spokane, Washington – The University of Puget Sound women's soccer team remained unbeaten in 2015 by defeating Whitworth 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Loggers (6-0-3, 2-0-2 NWC) and Pirates (5-5, 3-3 NWC) played an even first half, with Whitworth just edging Puget Sound in shots (6-5), and no one finding the back of the net.
Puget Sound did not wait long in the second half to get on the board. Just five minutes in, Grayson Williams-Krebs took a bouncing shot from the left flank. Lura Morton allowed the ball to go through her legs while shielding the view of the Whitworth goalkeeper. Williams-Krebs' goal was her second of the season, and first game-winner.
The Loggers defense remained stout in the second half, recording the seventh shutout of the season for the team and goalkeeper Lauren Thomas. Puget Sound is unbeaten in 12 consecutive regular-season games, dating back to last fall.
Puget Sound and Whitworth both had 10 shots, while the Loggers edged the Pirates in corner kicks (6-5). Amalia Acorda-Fey led the team with seven shots, while goalkeeper Lauren Thomas (6-0-3) made five saves.
Puget Sound will next play at Whitman on Sunday, October 4. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
