WALLA WALLA, Washington – Emma Donckels scored her first goal of the season as the Puget Sound women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw at Whitman on Sunday afternoon. The Loggers (6-0-4, 2-0-4 NWC) remain undefeated this season after entering the weekend ranked No. 19 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Donckels headed in a pass from Amalia Acorda-Fey to give Puget Sound a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. The Loggers carried that edge into halftime, but the Missionaries (1-8-2, 1-4-2) evened things up two minutes into the second half thanks to a goal by Lena de Guzman.
The Loggers fired 11 shots between the two overtime periods, but to no avail. Jordyn McLuen and Acorda-Fey got off three shots each in the second overtime. The Puget Sound defense kept Whitman from attempting a single shot in 20 minutes of overtime play.
Overall, Puget Sound attempted 22 shots (eight on goal) to Whitman's seven (three on goal).
The Loggers return home to host George Fox on Saturday, Oct. 10, for a 12 p.m. start against the Bruins.
