Loggers begin conference play at home this weekend

TACOMA, Washington- The Puget Sound women's soccer team heads into conference play with a 2-1-1 non-conference record. The Loggers host two Northwest Conferece games this weekend, facing Linfield Saturday, Sept. 16, at 12 p.m., and George Fox on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 12 p.m. Both games are on Peyton Field.

Teamwork

Puget Sound has totaled five goals thus far, each goal being netted by a different Logger. Lura Morton, Genevieve Cheatham, Gabbie Berg, Tayla MacPherson and Kendra Elderkin all found the back of the net during their two wins.

 

Defense

After recording 12 saves last week, goalkeeper Jamie Lange earned the Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week (defense). The Loggers have recorded three shutouts in their last three games, and have allowed only two goals all season. 

 

Regional respect

The Loggers grabbed a No. 7 rank in the West Region following the season's first weekly United Coaches Poll. 

 

Scouting Linfield (2-2, 0-0 NWC)

The Wildcats break even heading into conference play with an overall record of 2-2. They were able to capitalize against Evergreen State and Warner Pacific, but endured losses vs. Northwest and the College of Idaho. Sami Moellmer leads the team in scoring with two goals, and Amidee Colleknon has a a goal and two assists.  

 

Scouting George Fox (2-1, 0-0 NWC)

George Fox has an overall record of 2-1 and has recorded six goals in the last three games. The Bruins lost their season-opener to Portland State, 2-0, but overcame the loss and conquered Beloit, 4-1, and Hamline, 2-1. The Bruins swept the Northwest Conference opening-week awards (Sept. 5): Emma Logan was named Defenseive Student-Athlete of the Week, and Kelsey Kammerzell earned Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week.
