Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran to play on Peyton Wednesday

TACOMA, Washington – The final 2017 regular-season installment of the crosstown rivalry between the Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran women's soccer teams is set for Wednesday, October 18, at 3 p.m. on Peyton Field.

Weekend warriors

The Loggers earned six points in the Northwest Conference standings by topping both Linfield and George Fox on the road this past weekend. Puget Sound won both games by 1-0 margins, thanks to goals by Gabbie Berg and Lura Morton.


The ball stops here

Jamie Lange totaled 11 saves during the Loggers' shutout wins at Linfield and George Fox. Lange ranks second in the NWC in saves (72), save percentage (.900), and goals-against average (0.57). Lange has not allowed a goal for 374 consecutive minutes.


Regional powers

Puget Sound enters Wednesday's contest ranked No. 9 in the West Region by the United Soccer Coaches, and Pacific Lutheran is No. 4 in the region.



The last time the Loggers and Lutes met was at Pacific Lutheran, Sept. 20. Then ranked No. 18 in NCAA D-III, Pacific Lutheran barely edged out the Loggers, 1-0, with a goal in the 104th minute.


Scouting the Lutes (12-2, 9-1 NWC)

Pacific Lutheran was knocked out of the national polls following a 1-0 loss against Whitworth (Oct. 1). However, the Lutes are currently ranked No. 4 in West Region by the Unite Soccer Coaches. Leah Magee and Machaela Grady are tied for the league-lead with seven goals, while Grady leads the NWC with seven assists. Natilie Robinson leads the conference in goals-against average (0.14) and save percentage (.944).
