TACOMA, Washington –The Puget Sound women's soccer team sank the first place Pirate ship, 2-1, Saturday afternoon on East Field.
The Loggers got on the board first in the 26th minute. Midfielder Tayla MacPherson intercepted the ball on top of the 18 yard box and slotted her shot perfectly into the far bottom right corner of the net.
Just three minutes before halftime the Pirates received a penalty kick from a Logger foul in the box. Midfielder Kathryn Bischoff capitalized on the opportunity, tying the match before halftime, 1-1.
Six minutes into the second half forward Lura Morton recorded the game-winner. Morton headed in Tess Peppis's corner kick into the upper right bend of the net, propelling the Loggers to a 2-1 advantage.
Puget Sound defense defended their 2-1 lead all the way through the second half. Goalkeeper Jamie Lange recorded seven saves throughout the 90 minute match.
The Loggers remain at home to take on Whitman Sunday, Oct. 29, at 12 p.m.
