Logger Women Knock Off Lutes

TACOMA, Wash. - Led by a sweep in doubles play, the Puget Sound Loggers collected their first win of the 2009 season, defeating cross-town rival Pacific Lutheran, 5-4, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Sunday afternoon at the UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers took the big lead right off the bat when they collected three big wins in doubles play.  The number one team of Sam Taylor (Hood River, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) and Madison Holtz (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) snuck past Ashley Brooks and Ashley Coats, 9-7.  At the second spot, Ashley Dombrow (Lake Forest, Ill./The Ethel Walker School) teamed with Devin Fields (San Francisco, Calif./Lick Wilmerding) to defeat Kristi Bruner and Ali Burnside, 8-5. 

The Loggers concluded the sweep in the third spot as Allisa Wolf (Durango, Colo.) and Nina Ho (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kaiser) slipped bpast Caitlyn Hoerr and Mary Stang, 9-8.  In singles play, the Loggers collected wins from Wolf at the second spot, 6-4, 7-6, over Coats and Holtze at the third spot, 6-4, 7-6, over Bruner. 

The Loggers hit the road this weekend, traveling to Whitworth and Whitman for a pair of Northwest Conference matches.
