Regionally-Ranked 'Cats Hold Off Loggers

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Puget Sound Loggers played the regionally-ranked Linfield Wildcats tough but in the end, fell 7-2 in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Sunday at the Linfield Tennis Center in McMinnville, Ore.

In doubles play, the second-ranked team in the west region took advantage of the Loggers as the team of Sallie Katter and Abby Olbrich held off Samantha Taylor (Hood River, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) and Madison Holtz (Honolulu, Hawai'i/Punahou), 8-1.

The Wildcats took the other two doubles matches as well, including a close 8-6 decision in the number three spot over the team of Ashley Dombrow (Lake Forest, Ill./The Ethel Walker School) and Katie Hurley (Chicago, Ill./New Trier).

In singles play, freshman Maddie Thiesse (Chanhassen, Minn./Holy Family) collect the first victory of her collegiate career with a three-set victory over Sophie Larson, 6-3, 3-6, 10-4, in the third spot.  Sophomore Jessie Gauger (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) also earned a victory in the sixth spot with a three-set win over Katie Patterson, 7-6, 1-6, 10-3.  

The Loggers head east of the Cascades next weekend as they travel to Whitman on Friday night and Whitworth on Saturday afternoon.
