TACOMA, Wash. - Playing with a new lineup, the Puget Sound Loggers were unable to stop the defending conference champion Whitworth Pirates, falling 9-0 in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Saturday morning at UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
The regionally-ranked Pirates slipped through doubles play with little effort, sweeping all three matches by a final score of 8-0. In singles play, things didn't get any better for the Loggers as the Bucs won five of six matches by finals of 6-0, 6-0.
The Loggers only game victory came in the second set of the number three singles as sophomore Devin Fields (San Francisco, Calif./Lick-Wilmerding) stole a game from Mya Towne.
Taking a break from conference play, the Loggers head down to California next week for matches at La Verne, La Sierra and Caltech.
