Logger Trio Named To All-NWC Volleyball Teams

SPOKANE, Wash. - After leading the Puget Sound Loggers to a third straight trip to the NCAA Division III Championships, sophomore Brynn Blickenstaff (Eagle, Idaho) and senior Kalli Kamphaus (Manson, Wash.) have been named First Team All-Northwest Conference while senior Leigh Sumida (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Iolani) earned Honorable Mention honors.

Blickenstaff earns first team honors for the second straight season after averaging 2.75 kills per set for the 22nd-ranked Loggers.  The 2008 AVCA West Region Freshman of the Year also had 152 digs in the regular season and 26 service aces for the maroon and white.

Kamphaus, an honorable mention selection in 2007 and 2008, hit .259 for the season with 2.20 kills per set.  She was also among the top blockers in the conference, recording 99 blocks in the regular season for an average of 1.12 blocks per set.

Sumida earns honorable mention honors after an outstanding senior season at libero.  Average 4.44 digs per set, she also added 12 service aces in the regular season.

The Loggers open up the 2009 NCAA DIII Volleyball Championships on Thursday afternoon when they take on unranked Cal Lutheran in a match that will be hosted by the University of Redlands.

A four-year contributor for the Logger volleyball program, Kalli has had a great experience at Puget Sound. In addition to two trips to the NCAA Tournament, including a trip to the Elite Eight as a sophomore, Kalli has had success in the classroom as well. "When you visit Puget Sound, you know that is where you belong. I couldn't see myself anywhere else."
