Loggers Start Slow But Defeat Whitman In Four Sets
WALLA WALLA, Wash. – A trio of players reached double digit kills as the Puget Sound volleyball team slipped past Whitman 25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22 on Friday. Jackie Harvey, Marissa Florant and Jenni Brehove each recorded double-doubles in the match.
Harvey led the Loggers (13-4, 7-2 NWC) with 13 kills and digs while hitting .250. Florant had 10 kills and 14 digs and Nicolette Reynaud hit .292 with 12 kills.
The match started slow for both teams as both the Loggers and Missionaries (5-11, 3-6 NWC) hit below .100 in the first set. The Loggers hit .047 and the Missionaries hit .067 but the Loggers were able to overcome for the win in the opening set. The Missionaries saw an improvement in their attack in the second set while the Loggers were still finding their rhythm to tie the match up at one set a piece.
In the third set, the Loggers caught fire and hit .273 to breeze to a 2-1 advantage and held on to momentum in the fourth set to clinch the match 3-1.
Brehove's double-double came through 39 assists and 16 digs. She also added three service aces. Florant had four aces as the Loggers had 11 aces as a team in the match.
Jillian Davis led Whitman with a match-high 17 kills while Courtney Brewer added 14 kills. Olivia Nelson with six total blocks and Megan Bafus with five block assists led the Missionaries to 10 team blocks.
The Loggers will head to Whitworth tomorrow for a 7 p.m. match.
