Loggers Fifth In NCAA West Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – The Puget Sound volleyball team debuted at No. 5 in the West Region in the first NCAA regional rankings of 2012. This week is the first of three regional rankings to be released by the NCAA prior to the selection of the NCAA Tournament.

The Loggers are one of two Northwest Conference teams to make the regional rankings. Three teams from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference – Cal Lutheran, Chapman and La Verne – comprise the top-3 teams in the West, followed by Pacific Lutheran at No. 4 and the Loggers at No. 5.

Colorado College, who the Loggers defeated in four sets earlier this season, is sixth and Occidental and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps round our the debut rankings of 2012.

The NCAA selection committee uses the regional rankings to determine the at-large berths into the postseason tournament.

The Loggers also fell to 15th in the national coaches poll this week after a 1-1 trip to Whitman and Whitworth.

The Loggers are back home for a four-match homestand, starting on Friday with a 7 p.m. match with George Fox.

Nicolette Reynaud jumped into a starting role early this season as a freshman and flourished in her new role. Her hard work on and off the floor has paid dividends as she led the team in blocks for much of the year. “On the court I think we expect to give 100% effort 100% of the time. We also expect the same thing off the court.”
