NEWBERG, Oregon – The Puget Sound volleyball team came away with a season-best .257 kill percentage and three Loggers posted double-digit digs as Puget Sound swept George Fox on the road, 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-17), Friday night.
Hannah Stinson and Heather Sangster led the Loggers (6-7, 3-2 NWC) with eight kills apiece, while Shawna Smith and Emily Convery each finished with seven. Rita Dexter set a career-record with 12 digs, while Rachael Garrison led all players with 17. Kristen Lane added 11 digs in the winning effort.
The Loggers won the first set, 25-19, as they held George Fox (4-8, 1-4 NWC) to a 0.29 attack percentage in the frame. The Bruins held a 12-9 lead before Puget Sound rallied to take a 14-13 edge. The score was briefly tied at 14-all, but an attack error by the Bruins gave the lead back to Puget Sound and the Loggers never relinquished that lead.
George Fox once again led midway through the second set, 11-9, but a 6-2 run by the Loggers yielded a 15-13 lead and Puget Sound held on for the rest of the set. The Loggers shined brightest in the third set when they put away 17 kills and attacked at a .342 rate.
Puget Sound remains on the road when it takes on Lewis & Clark on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m.
