Four-game road stint continues at Willamette, Linfield

TACOMA, Washington – The Northwest Conference landscape is wide open as the Puget Sound volleyball team continues its road schedule at Willamette and Linfield this weekend. The Loggers take on the Bearcats on Friday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. start at Linfield on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Conference outlook

Six NWC teams are at least .500 in the conference entering this weekend. Both the Loggers and George Fox are 2-2, while Whitworth and Pacific Lutheran are 3-1. Pacific is in first place at 4-0 in the league.

 

Dexter's deal

Rita Dexter continues to be one of the best offensive weapons in the NWC. Her 107 kills rank fifth in the conference, and she's fourth with a .329 hitting percentage.

 

Ace in the hole

Katarina Moffett ranks fifth in the NWC with 0.55 service aces per set. She had four aces in the season-opener against Edgewood, and three aces two games later against Clarkson.

 

Double-double threat

Moira McVicar is fourth in the NWC with 8.60 assists per set, but she's also gets work done on the defensive end. There are eight games this season in which McVicar finished with at least 17 assists and seven digs.  

 

Scouting Willamette (4-8, 1-3 NWC)

The Bearcats snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over Whitman in their most recent contest (Sept. 23). Although they rank towards the bottom of the NWC in kills and attack percentage, the Bearcats are second in the league with 85 total blocks. Emma Liband has 52 total blocks this season, and Kendall Fox leads the team with 86 kills.

 

Scouting Linfield (8-3, 2-2 NWC)

The Wildcats lost their two most recent contests, both by a 3-1 margin against Pacific Lutheran and George Fox. Kayla Magbaleta is second in the NWC with 5.56 digs per set, and Destynia Grace is the league-leader for services aces per set (0.66). Linfield is third in total blocks with 76. The Wildctats compete at Pacific on Wednesday, Sept. 27, before their match against the Loggers.
