Miguel tallies career-high 28 digs in loss at Willamette

SALEM, OregonKristen Miguel finished with her second double-double of the season, but the Puget Sound volleyball team lost at Willamette, 3-1 (25-14, 21-25, 30-28, 25-21), on Friday night.

Miguel tallied a career-high 28 digs and added 10 kills for the Loggers (5-7, 2-3 NWC). Moira McVicar posted at least 30 assists for the third consecutive match, totaling 36 against the Bearcats (5-8, 2-3 NWC). Rita Dexter's 11 kills marked the fifth time this season she recorded double-digit kills. 

Puget Sound dropped the first set, 25-14, but bounced back with a 25-21 win in the second set.

The third set was an intense back-and-forth battle. The Loggers trailed, 15-12, but fought back and a kill by Melania Siacotos gave Puget Sound a 17-16 edge. A Willamette error followed by a kill from Erika Smith cushioned the Logger lead to 19-16, but the Bearcats went on a 4-0 run to take a one-point lead.

A Willamette error followed by a Miguel kill allowed Puget Sound to take a 23-21 lead. The Bearcats refused to back down in the pivotal set, and they knotted up the score, 25-25. McVicar's kill put the Loggers ahead, 26-25. Willamette came back to claim a 27-26 lead, but a kill from Siacotos followed by a Bearcats' error flipped the one-point advantage. Willamette closed out the set with a 3-0 run come away with a 30-28 victory.

The Loggers look to bounce back at Linfield on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.
