Loggers and Lutes clash for midweek rivalry showdown

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound volleyball team hosts crosstown rival Pacific Lutheran for a midweek Northwest Conference clash on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.

Comeback kids

Puget Sound faced a 2-0 deficit at Linfield (Oct. 1), but the Loggers rallied to capture three consecutive sets and a road victory. It was a much-needed win for the Loggers, who lost their previous two matches by 3-1 margins.


Miguel digs it

Kristen Miguel finished with a career-high 28 digs during the Loggers' loss at Willamette on Saturday (Sept. 30). She followed that performance with 20 digs during a Puget Sound win at Linfield the following day.


Smith kills it

Erika Smith put a away a career-high 15 kills during the Loggers' 3-2 win at Linfield (Oct. 1). She attacked at a .400 clip, and added 4.5 blocks.


Just for kills

Rita Dexter continues to rank among the best offensive players in the NWC. She is fifth in total kills (132) and fourth in hitting percentage (.310).


Conference landscape

Pacific, Pacific Lutheran, and Whitworth are all tied atop the Northwest Conference standings with 5-1 NWC records. Puget Sound and Whitman follow with 3-3 league marks. Linfield, Willamette, and George Fox are all 2-4, and Lewis & Clark (0-6) is still searching for its first league win.


Scouting Pacific Lutheran (11-3, 5-1)

The Lutes are on the fringe of cracking the America Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Poll; Pacific Lutheran received 50 votes in this week's poll. Mackenzie Harris leads the NWC with 1.24 blocks per set,  and she is second with a .337 hitting percentage. Caylie Shiramizu ranks second in the NWC for digs per set (5.44). The Lutes are tied with Pacific for the league-lead in points per set (16.9).
