Logger volleyball set to celebrate seniors this weekend

TACOMA, Washington – Puget Sound celebrates its senior class this weekend when the Logger volleyball team hosts its final home matches of the 2017 season. The Loggers take on Willamette on Friday, Oct. 27, and Linfield on Saturday, Oct. 28. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.

Senior sendoff

The Loggers will celebrate the following seniors and respective family and friends before the start of Saturday's contest: Moira McVicar, Rachael Garrison, Shelby Kantner, Katie Rice, Hannah Stinson, Rita Dexter, and Erika Smith.

 

Freshman rising

Melanie Siacotos put away a season-high 11 kills against George Fox, Oct. 20. The following day she tallied 12 kills against Pacific.

 

Aces up her sleeve

Katarina Moffett ranks fifth in the Northwest Conference with 0.39 aces per set. She had two aces during the Loggers' 6-0 run to open the third set of Puget Sound's victory over Pacific (Oct. 21).

 

Efficient attack

Rita Dexter posted 26 kills last weekend and remains one of the best offensive players in the NWC. She ranks sixth in the league with a .267 kill percentage.

 

First time around

The Loggers split a weekend on the road at Willamette and Linfield, Sept. 29-30. Puget Sound lost at the Bearcats, 3-1. The following day, the Loggers were in a 2-0 hole at the Wildcats, but rallied for a 3-2 win. Five Loggers had double-digit kills against Linfield, led by 15 from Erika Smith.

 

Scouting Willamette (7-13, 4-8 NWC)

The Bearcats lost two road games at Whitworth and Whitman last week, both by 3-1 margins. Emma Liband ranks third the NWC with 1.12 blocks per set, but the Bearcats are last in the NWC with 10.22 kills per set. Jaiden Mason leads the team with 137 kills this season, followed by Kendall Fox with 135.

 

Scouting Linfield (9-10, 3-9 NW)

The Wildcats enter the weekend with nine losses in their last 10 contests. Linfield has committed the second-most errors in the NWC (437), but leads the league in service aces (140). Kayla Magbalete is third in the NWC with 5.32 digs per set, and Tayla Petersen is fourth in blocks per set with 1.03.
