Stinson is the third Logger to earn NWC Player of the Year under Massey's tutelage during Puget Sound's NCAA D-III era (Jackie Harvey, 2012; Karen Elmgren, 2000). Massey also led Anna Dudek to two Conference Player of the Year honors in 1997 and 1998.

During the D-III era, Logger volleyball has collected 18 AVCA All-American honors. Massey has twice been named the NWC Coach of the Year (2000, 2005). In 2000, Massey was named the AVCA West Region Coach of the Year.

Since arriving at Puget Sound in 1996, the volleyball program has captured three Northwest Conference titles and continued to win at a .700+ clip, including a fifth-place finish at NAIA nationals in 1997, a No. 16 NAIA ranking in 1998 (despite competing without athletic scholarships against scholarship teams), a No. 4 NCAA- II ranking in 2000, and a No. 9 in 2012. In all, Coach Massey has produced 13 Top-20 teams. In 2012, Massey led the Loggers to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the third time.

He has worked with numerous national team athletes and high school and college coaches, designing mental training programs for peak performance. Massey is also a noted speaker at coach education workshops on high-speed offensive systems. He was a featured speaker on "swing attack" at the 1999 NCAA Volleyball National Convention held in conjunction with the Division I finals in Hawaii. His outstanding collegiate coaching career includes Cal State Los Angeles ('89-'95), Northeastern University (Boston, '84-'89), Winthrop University (Rock Hill, South Carolina, '83), Syracuse University (New York, '80-'82), and Furman University (Greenville, South Carolina, '76-'79). Massey was recognized in 1992 as the Asics/Volleyball Monthly NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year, was a two-time recipient of the AVCA Southwest Region Coach of the Year award, and was CCAA Conference Co-Coach of the Year.

Massey holds a B.S. degree from Furman University (Greenville, SC) in Biology/Physical Education, a Master's degree from Ithaca College (Ithaca, NY), and is at the ABD stage of a Doctorate in Education at Syracuse University (Syracuse, NY), specializing in Sport Psychology.
