Reynolds Second At NCAA West Regionals

SALEM, Ore. - Two weeks after blowing away the competition at the Northwest Conference Championship, junior Francis Reynolds (Palo Alto, Calif.) faced a lot tougher competition at the 2008 NCAA West Region Championship on Saturday morning at Bush Park in Salem, Ore.  Reynolds finished just 0.18 seconds behind Nicholas Gallagher to earn a spot at the NCAA Division III Championships next week in Hanover, Ind.

As a team, the Loggers finished ninth in the 15 team field.  Reynolds ran the eight-kilometer course in 25:01.43 but Gallagher recorded a time of 25:01.25 as he led the Pirates to the West Region team title.  Andrew Bonica (Tualatin, Ore) was the second Logger across the line, finishing in 46th place with a time of 26:36.67.  Whitworth and Claremont-M-S both qualified for the national championship as teams while Reynolds took the top individual spot.

In the women's race, freshman Hayley Walker (Cambria, Calif./Coast Union) led the Loggers with a 51st place finish, covering the course in 23:46.85.  Maddie Coffman of Willamette won the women's title with a time of 21:26.99.  Claremont-M-S took the team title while Pomona-Pitzer finished second as both teams earned a spot at next week's national championship.
