ESTACADA, Ore. – The Puget Sound men's cross country captured the team win at the Pioneer Invitational on Saturday in its final tuneup before the NWC Championships. Matt Klein led a trio of Loggers in the top-10 to take the win. Carrie Keith led the women's team in 21st.
Klein was the top collegiate finisher and second overall in the six-team meet. He ran a 25:54.10 to take second an pace the Loggers. Josh Seekatz finished sixth with 26:25.09 and David Santillan was ninth with a 26:36.57 to help the Loggers to the win. Justin Bigelow was just outside the top-10 in 11th with a 26:48.48. Justin Higa rounded out the Logger scoring in 21st as he finished at 27:36.30.
The Logger men tallied just 40 points as a team to beat the next closest team by 31 points as Lewis & Clark finished second.
The Logger women came in fourth in the Pioneer Invitational led by Keith in 21st. Keith finished at 24:18.95 to pace the Loggers while Kathryn Flyte wasn't far behind in 23rd with a 24:22.37. Laura Leach and Taili Ni finished together as Leach came in 28th with a 24:41.39 and Ni was 29th at 24:43.28. Torri Sarris rounded out the Logger scoring with a 24:49.75 in 31st.
The Loggers are at the NWC Championships in two weeks on Oct. 27 at Forest Grove, Ore.
