ESTACADA, Oregon – Tyler Shipley continued to assert himself as one of the best runners in the region as the Puget Sound men's cross country team placed second out of 11 teams in the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Lewis & Clark on Saturday. The Puget Sound women's squad finished seventh out of 10 teams on the day.
Shipley crossed the finish line in 24:57.1, less than five seconds behind Southern Oregon's Ray Schireman. Southern Oregon won the men's event as a team. Geremia Lizier-Zmudzin finished fourth overall for Puget Sound, timing in at 24:58.4. Sam Carilli finished 16th at 26:07.9
On the women's side, Taili Ni was Puget Sound's best finisher at eighth overall with a time of 22:51.7. Madison Bolejack was the Loggers' next finisher with a time of 24:10.2, good for 33rd overall. Whitworth won the women's race as a team.
The Northwest Conference Championships hosted by Pacific Lutheran is Saturday, Oct. 31.
