TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's cross country team broke into the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional ranks for the first time this season.
The second week of the USTFCCCA poll placed the Loggers seventh in the West Region. Samantha Schaffer and Rachael Metzler broke into Puget Sound's Top 25 All-Time list during the Sundodger Invitational hosted by Washington in Lincoln Park on Saturday (Sept. 16). Schaffer's 22:41.97 is ranked No. 13 in Logger history, and Metzler's 22:45.36 is No. 16. The Logger women placed eighth out of 20 teams. Kayla Thaller was Puget Sound's third finisher, timing in at 23:24.07.
The Loggers opened the season with a dominating performance in the Puget Sound Invitational (Sept. 2). Six Logger women placed in the top-seven finishers as the women's cross country team won the season-opening event in Ft. Steilacoom Park.
Metzler placed second overall (first NCAA D-III) with a time of 24:18.00. She was followed by Samantha Schaffer (24:20.00), Kayla Thaller(24:48.00), Terra Wildon (25:03.00), Eleanor Schnorr (25:22.00), and Hannah Eshelman (25:24.00). The Loggers totaled 20 points.
Puget Sound's next race is in Salem, Oregon, for the Chuck Bowles Invitational, Sept. 30.
