NWC Cross Country Championships scheduled for Saturday

TACOMA, Washington – The Northwest Conference Cross Country Championships are this Saturday, and the Puget Sound men's and women's teams are ready to impress.

 

When and where

Whitman hosts the event at Memorial Golf Course in Walla Walla, Washington. The men's race begins at 10 a.m., and the women's race begins at 11 a.m.

 

Pacing the pack

Isaac Fournier enters the weekend with the best time for the Logger men this season, finishing the Sundodger Invitational (Sept. 16) in 26:56.1. Samantha Schaffer holds the Puget Sound women's top time this season at 22:36.3, a mark she achieved in the Lewis & Clark Invitational (Oct. 14).

 

Regional prowess

The Logger women have been ranked in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association West Region for five consecutive weeks. Puget Sound peaked at No. 5, and it enters the weekend ranked No. 6.

 

A look at last year

Hannah Eshelman finished 32nd in the 2016 NWC Women's Championships with a time of 23:46.6, while Alison Wise (23:48.4) and Emma Hatton (23:53.8) placed 36th and 37th, respectively. On the men's side, Jack Monaghan placed 21st with a time of 26:44.5.
