A look at this week

Puget Sound closed out a three-game home series against Whitworth on Monday (March 27). The Loggers lost that game, 6-2, but bounced back with a doubleheader split against Lewis & Clark in Portland on Wednesday (March 29).

Ninth-inning rally

The Loggers trailed Lewis & Clark, 6-4, entering the ninth inning in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader, but Puget Sound rallied for three runs on one hit to stun the Pioneers, 7-6. Cal Muramaru and James Dejesus were both hit by pitches to lead off the ninth inning. The speedy outfielders both swiped a base to put runners on second and third for Mason Quinlan, and the first-baseman smacked a two-run double to tie the game. Hunter Riley walked, and Quinlan took third on a passed ball. Quinlan scored the game-winning run when Tyler Brazelton hit into a fielder's choice.

Game saver

Michael Warnick leads the Northwest Conference with seven saves – three more than the next NWC closer. Warnick has a 2.45 ERA entering the weekend.

A new ERA

The Loggers enter the weekend the second-best ERA in the NWC (3.81). Linfield leads the league with a 3.73 ERA. In addition to Michael Warnick, David Follett (1.64 ERA) and Eric Crispell (2.20 ERA) have been solid out of the bullpen. Starting pitcher Merle Rowan-Kennedy has a 1.93 ERA in his last four outings.

Scouting Whitman (12-15, 6-9 NWC)

The Blues' 7-2 win over Lewis & Clark on Thursday snapped a four-game losing streak for Whitman. The Blues have the third-best batting average in the NWC (.283), and they're sixth in team ERA (4.48). Adrian Vela leads the team with five home runs and 21 RBI, while Joseph Zimmer is hitting .374 this season. Eric Ma has a 2.63 ERA and 3-0 record through seven starts.
