Puget Sound and PLU played each other in a non-conference game in Parkland, Washington, Feb. 26. The Lutes got by with a 5-4 win. Sean Rooney, Jack Gries, and Mason Quinlan each hit a double for the Loggers.
Mason Quinal built a 10-game winning streak early this season, but it ended at George Fox last weekend. Quinlan leads Puget Sound in batting average (.333) and doubles (6).
After leading the NWC in on-base percentage as a freshman last year, second baseman Kyle Strash ranks third in the NWC with a .465 on-base percentage. He has drawn nine walks to four strikeouts, and he's batting .303. He has reached base in nine of his 11 games this season.
Finding his stroke
After starting the season 1-for-17 at the dish, Jack Gries has hit a groove since the NWC season started. Through his last five games, Gries is 9-for-22 with four doubles and five runs.
Scouting Pacific Lutheran (10-4, 2-1 NWC)
The Lutes enter this weekend with five consecutive wins, and six wins in their last seven games. Jacob Bockelie leads the NWC in both home runs (4) and RBI (19). Andy Schmitz is fifth in the NWC for hitting, as he has a .365 batting average. The pitching staff's 117 strikeouts is tops in the NWC.
