THOUSAND OAKS, California – Despite a season-high 16 hits while scoring double-digit runs for the second time this season, the Puget Sound baseball team lost a slugfest at No. 19 Cal Lutheran, 16-11, Monday evening.
Puget Sound's other game with 10+ runs was a 12-2 win over Willamette (Feb. 23).
For the second time this California trip, Jack Gries hit a solo home run. His second long ball of the season came in the first inning. Gries previously homered at Occidental (March 17).
Kyle Strash went 3-for-5 at the plate, including an RBI single in the fifth inning. Corey Roberts' 2-for-5 game at the dish included a pair of RBI and two runs. Ricardo Barraza, Sean Rooney, and Tyler Brazelton also notched two hits.
Cal Lutheran (12-4) did most of its damage in the sixth and seventh innings, when it scored five runs and four runs, respectively.
The Loggers (3-17) rallied four runs in the ninth inning. The final frame featured an RBI double by Jacob Ota, and an RBI single by Brazelton.
Puget Sound aims to end the road trip with a win at Pomona-Pitzer Tuesday, March 19, at 11 a.m.
