PORTLAND, Ore. - A pair of season bests from both the men and women, the Puget Sound Loggers took fourth on both the men's and women's side of the 2009 Northwest Conference Fall Classic at Heron Lakes GC in Portland, Ore.
In the final round of the fall season, the Logger women fired their best round of the season, carding a 353. Puget Sound was led on day two by an 84 from Maresa Jenson (Whitefish, Mont.) to tie for 13th with a 28-over 172. Sarah Bicker (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) carded an 87 in the second round to tie for 11th with a 171. Natalie Nakamie (Pearl City, Hawaii/Roosevelt) averaged 88 for the tournament, taking 18th with a 32-over 176.
George Fox won the Fall Classic with 75-over par 651, including an outstanding 309 in the second round. Emily Guthrie of Whitworth was the medalist for the tournament, finishing with a 13-over 157.
On the men's side, junior Greg Kirkpatrick (Longview, Wash./Mark Morris) led the Loggers on day two with a one-over 73 to take seventh overall with a six-over 150. Marc Phillips (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) tied for 13th with a nine-over 153 while Jordan Hodge (Tucson, Ariz.) took 18th with a 10-over 154. Collin Wulff (Albany, Ore./West Albany) had a solid weekend, firing two rounds in the 70s to take 19th with an 11-over 155. All six Loggers shot in the 70s on Sunday as Puget Sound shot a 298 to finish at 31-over 607 for the weekend.
Linfield won the team title with a five-over 591, three strokes better than Whitworth and five strokes better than Pacific. Tyler Nelson of Linfield won the individual title, using a 69 on Sunday to shoot three-under for the weekend and hold off Pacific's Max Bonk by one stroke.
The Loggers will put the clubs away for the winter, next taking the course for competition on March 4-5 when they play host to the Logger Invitational at Fircrest GC in Fircrest, Wash.
