PORTLAND, Ore. – The Puget Sound men's golf team put together a solid first round at the NWC Fall Classic today. The Loggers currently have a 10-stroke lead after day one of the two-day tournament.
The women's team currently sits in eighth place with team score of 448 (+160).
The men's team shot even as a team to lead the field with a 288 on the first day. Their 288 is just fives strokes over the school record. Matt Kitto leads the squad with a 3-under 69. He currently sits in 2nd place, just one stroke behind Dustin Hegge from Pacific Lutheran.
Nick Kelley is tied for third with a 71 (-1). Freshman Adam Bean was 1-over on the day with 73 and Riley Conlin finished up the Loggers scoring with a 75 (+3) in a tie for seventh.
The Loggers hold a 10-stroke lead over Linfield, who is in second as a team.
The women's team was led by Melissa Merrigan with a 96 (+26). Ev Grier was next to finish with a 104 (+32) while Carrie Eidness and Molly Nelson each finished with a 123 (+51).
The women's NWC Fall Classic was played at the Heron Lakes – Green Back Course while the men competed on the Heron Lakes – Great Blue Course.
The final round will take place tomorrow for both teams.
