ALOHA, Ore. – The Puget Sound golf teams completed play at the Pacific Invitational on Friday. The men's team came in third as a team, led by Matt Kitto and Adam Bean. The women's team finished fourth, led by Melissa Merrigan in 13th.
Bean fired another 75 (+3) on Sunday and Kitto shot a four-over 76 as the two tied for sixth in the tournament with two-day scores of 150 (+6). They were just four shots behind the leader.
Linfield was just 23-over par as a team to win the team title by two strokes over the Community College of Spokane. The Loggers were third with a team score of 614 (+38), followed by Centenary in fourth and Pacific in fifth. Linfield's "B" squad came in sixth while George Fox and Lewis & Clark came in seventh and eighth, respectively.
On the women's side., Merrigan finished 13th as an individual with a two-day score of 202 (+58). She shaved eight strokes off her day one round on Sunday. Molly Nelson was 105-over par to tie for 15th. Jess Yarbrough came in 17 and Elayna Zammarelli rounded out the Logger scoring in 18th.
The Loggers shot a 976 (+400) as a team to finish fourth. Linfield's 145-over par took the team title. Pacific Lutheran finished second with a two-day total of 783 (+207) and Pacific was third at 247-over par.
Both teams head the NWC Spring Classic on Mar. 31 – Apr. 1 for their next tournament.
