WOODBURN, Ore. – Adam Bean was even with par to lead the Puget Sound men's golf team on the first day of the NWC Championships. Halle Peterson led the women's golf team. The Logger men are in third as a team but just nine shots behind the leader while the women are in eighth.
Bean was one of five players to come in the clubhouse even with par or better. Linfield's Adam Ruben was the only one to shoot under par and has a one shot lead on the field.
Derek Wilson was the next Logger in the clubhouse at three-over par for the day and in a tie for eighth. Matt Kitto was one shot back of Wilson as he came in with a 76 (+4). Karsten Sladky shot an 81 (+9) to wrap up the Loggers team scorecard.
The Loggers turned in a 304 (+16) for the first day, which placed them third in the championship tournament with 18 holes left to play. Linfield was just seven-over par as a team to take a two shot lead over Whitworth.
Peterson led the Logger women on day one of the championship tournament, coming into the clubhouse with a 97 (+27). Ev Grier was just three strokes back of Peterson in 30th. Lauren Boinface is in 32nd with first day score of 109 (+37). Madison Cox and Molly Nelson came in with the same score to round out the Logger scorecard.
The Loggers are in eighth as a team but just 10 strokes behind Linfield for seventh. George Fox is on top of the team standing with Kelsey Morrison lading the individual field.
The Loggers will see if they can close the gap tomorrow in the final round of the NWC Championships.
