Early Lead Disappears In Loss To Eastern Oregon

PARKLAND, Wash. – The Puget Sound men's basketball team fell 75-68 to undefeated Eastern Oregon on Friday in the first game of the Thanksgiving Classic at Pacific Lutheran. Two of the Loggers (1-2) top scorers came off the bench with Riggs Yarbro scoring a team-high 14 points and AJ Maw recording 10 points and seven boards.

Rex Holmes had 11 points and five assists for the Loggers, who jumped out to an early lead. The Loggers led by as much as seven points early when Erin Barber's three-pointer pushed the lead 13-6 just over five minutes.

Eastern Oregon (11-0) took its first lead when JD Ester's capped a 7-0 run over the next four minutes. The teams traded leads over the next several minutes and a jumper form Derek Jobe reclaimed the final Logger lead of the weekend at2 21-20 with 7:49 remaining in the first half.

The Loggers would go silent over the final seven minutes, scoring just five points. Yarbro was the only Logger to convert a field goal with four points on a pair of jumpers. His second jumper ended a four-minute scoreless drought and cut the deficit to 30-26.

Eastern Oregon pushed its lead to double digits and held off a late push from the Loggers to capture the win and stay undefeated. Trent Roos went off for 28 points for EOU while Anthony Brown added 17 more.

The Loggers were hurt by a 6-for-16 shooting night at the free throw line. EOU was 16-of-26 on the night. The Loggers outshot EOU with 42.4 percent from the field. EOU was held under 40 percent in the game.

The Loggers are back at the PLU Thanksgiving Classic tomorrow to face Evergreen St. at 4 p.m.
