PASADENA, Calif. – Riggs Yarbro scored 20 points for the second consecutive night to lead the Puget Sound men's basketball team to a 97-70 win over Caltech on Sunday. Yarbro also pulled down eight rebounds as the Loggers held a 24-rebound advantage in the game.
Nick Holden led the rebounding effort with nine boards in the game. The Loggers (4-5) outrebounded the Beavers (0-10) 59-35 in the contest.
The Loggers never trailed in the game but the beavers were able to stay within striking distance throughout the first half. KC Emezie brought the Beavers back within four with just over two minutes left but the Loggers responded before the break.
Yarbro's layup put the lead back at six and Ryan Rogers knocked down a three-pointer and a pair of free throws to give the Loggers the 44-3 lead at halftime.
Emezie had 16 points for the Beavers and Michael Edwards led the hosts with 20 points. Rogers finished with 13 points for the Logger as did Rex Nelson, who came off the bench.
The lead never shrunk back into single digits and continued to grow throughout the second half as the Loggers forced 16 Beaver turnovers in the final 20 minutes and held Caltech to just 32 percent shooting in the half.
The Loggers will look to remain perfect on their road trip when they take on La Verne on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
