TACOMA, Washington – Eric Rauch scored a career-high 27 points as the Puget Sound men's basketball team's bench led the Loggers to an 81-70 win at UC-Santa Cruz on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Puget Sound completes a two-game sweep of the Mission Inn Holiday Classic hosted by the Banana Slugs.
The Loggers' (5-5) top six scorers came off the bench against UC-Santa Cruz (3-9). Both Timmy Saunders and Keith Shattuck sored 11 points, while Adam Feinberg, Zach Miller, and Jimmy Wohrer all scored eight points apiece. Miller added a team-high seven rebounds.
Puget Sound's bench outscored the UC-Santa Cruz bench, 73-26.
The Loggers held the Banana Slugs to just 36.8 percent shooting from the floor while forcing UC-Santa Cruz into 20 turnovers. Puget Sound committed just nine turnovers and shot 41.9 percent (13-for-31) from 3-point range.
Rauch shot 9-for-13 from the floor and 8-for-11 from beyond the arc. Kohl Meyer assisted on five baskets, marking the seventh game this season in which he has recorded five or more assists. Meyer entered the game tops in the Northwest Conference with 5.3 assists per game.
Puget Sound resumes its Northwest Conference schedule when it hosts Willamette on Jan. 8.
