No. 16 Whitman too much for Loggers

WALLA WALLA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's basketball team lost to No. 16 Whitman, 102-76, on Friday evening.

Carlos Mancasola led the Loggers with 12 points, while Matt Reid scored 11 points. Kendall Schmidt chipped in 12 points off the bench, while Zach Miller recorded nine points and five rebounds.

Puget Sound (9-7, 4-3 NWC) was able to stick with the nationally ranked Missionaries (14-2, 6-1 NWC), trading baskets for the first 10 minutes of the game. The two teams were tied 22-22 with 11:15 left in the first half.  Whitman then began to open up their cushion, leading by as many as 33 points.  

Puget Sound shot 46.7 percent (28-for-60) from the field, while Whitman shot 54.0 percent (34-for-63). The Loggers shot 33.3 percent from beyond the arc (8-for-24). The Missionaries were 14-for-27 (51.9 percent) when attempting three-pointers, and outrebounded the Loggers 42-31. Four Missionaries scored in double figures.

Puget Sound will next play at Whitworth on Saturday, January 23. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m.
