TACOMA, Washington – Keith Shattuck scored 18 points, but the Puget Sound men's basketball team lost to No. 9 Whitman, 83-57, on Saturday evening to end the regular season.
The game was the final home game of the year, and served as senior night. Keith Shattuck, Eric Rauch, Adam Feinberg, and Matt Reid were honored before tip-off for their hard work and commitment to the Logger program.
A night after nearly upsetting No. 3 Whitworth, Puget Sound (13-12, 8-8 NWC) had another tough test in a top-10 opponent. Whitman (22-3, 14-2 NWC) jumped out to a 7-0 lead, and never trailed in the game. The visitors led 39-17 at halftime. Despite forcing 16 turnovers, Puget Sound was unable to cut into the Missionaries lead. The Loggers gave up 15 offensive rebounds and were outrebounded 53-28.
Puget Sound shot 36.5 percent (23-for-63) from the field, while Whitman shot 47.6 percent (30-for-63). The Loggers shot 24.0 percent from beyond the arc (6-for-25). The Missionaries were 10-for-23 (43.5 percent) when attempting 3-pointers.
Puget Sound will next have a rematch with Whitworth on Thursday, February 25. The Northwest Conference semi-final is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. in Spokane.
