NWC schedule starts at home against Wildcats and Bruins

TACOMA, Washington – The Northwest Conference slate starts up this weekend when the Puget Sound men's basketball team hosts Linfield on Friday, Dec. 2, at 8 p.m. The Loggers then tipoff at home against George Fox on Saturday at 6 p.m.

The Loggers won both of their games during the Pacific Lutheran Thanksgiving Tournament (Nov. 25-26). Puget Sound beat Dallas, 74-73, and followed with a 91-71 triumph over Whittier.

 

Leading Loggers

Carlos Mancasola leads Puget Sound in scoring with 17.0 points per game, which also ranks fifth in the NWC. Kohl Meyer is the league's second-leading rebounder with 8.6 per game, and he ranks fifth with 4.8 assists per game.

 

From a distance

The Loggers have attempted at least 23 3-pointers in four of their five games this season. Puget Sound's 42 made 3-pointers ranks second in the NWC.

 

NWC outlook

This weekend marks the first conference games for all NWC teams. Overall, both No. 5 Whitman and No. 8 Whitworth are 3-0. The 4-1 Loggers have a slight edge over Linfield and Pacific, who are both 3-1.

 

Scouting Linfield (3-1)

The Wildcats opened their season with a loss against Cal Lutheran, but bounced back with a win over UC Santa Cruz and consecutive wins over Northwest Indian. Vince Romeo averages 12.8 points per game, followed by Austin Murray with 12.3. Linfield is shooting 55.2 percent from the floor, and holding its opponents to just 32.7 percent.

 

Scouting George Fox (1-2)

The Bruins lone win came against Chapman, coupled with losses to Claremont-M-S and Cal Lutheran. JJ Lacey leads the team with 14.3 points per game, while Dylan Hamlett adds 12.0. Isaac Lee has a team-best 6.0 rebounds per game. George Fox is getting crushed on the boards with a -14.4 rebound margin.
