The Loggers (9-6, 2-4 NWC) were playing in their second consecutive game against a top-10 ranked team. Whitman (15-0, 6-0 NWC) built an 11-point lead in the first half, however, Puget Sound fought back to within one, 25-24, with 7:34 left in the first 20 minutes. The Blues weathered the run, and extended their lead, holding a 43-31 lead at the break. At one point in the second half, the Loggers went on a 10-2 run, but the No. 2 team in the country was able to wrest control back, building their lead back to double digits.
Puget Sound shot 52.9 percent (27-for-51) from the field, while Whitman shot 49.2 percent (30-for-61). The Loggers were 6-for-15 (40.0 percent) from beyond the arc. The Blues were 11-for-26 (42.3 percent) on 3-point shots. Puget Sound edged Whitman in rebounding, 32-31.
Puget Sound will attempt to bounce back on Tuesday, January 17. The Loggers will host crosstown rival Pacific Lutheran at 8 p.m.
