Puget Sound forces 31 turnovers to beat Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, California – The Puget Sound men's basketball team secured its fifth consecutive win by forcing 31 turnovers in an 89-84 win at Pomona-Pitzer as part of the Wells Classic Friday night.

Nate Vieira's 3-pointer with 1:48 left in regulation gave Puget Sound an 83-80 edge, and the Sagehens' (0-4) next possession ended with a turnover. During the Loggers' ensuing possession, they earned a couple of opportunities to make it a two-possession game thanks to offensive rebounds by Jimmy Wohrer and Vieira. Zion Shepherd laid in a basket with just over one minute on the clock, giving the Loggers an 85-80 lead.

Max Basile led the Loggers' defensive efforts with a game-high three steals. Zach Gelacio and Shepherd both finished with a pair of steals. Puget Sound (5-0) is forcing 31.2 turnovers per game.

Wohrer continued his outstanding start to the season by leading all players with 25 points. The junior is averaging 24.6 points per game and shooting 40.6 percent from 3-point range.

Easton Driessen and Vieira both scored 13 points for the Loggers.

The Loggers take on Claremont-M-S on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 7:30 p.m.
