Men's basketball suffers another overtime defeat against Bruins

TACOMA, Washington – After scoring the first four points in overtime, the Puget Sound men's basketball team struggled to find a bucket and the Loggers ultimately lost to George Fox, 79-78, in Memorial Fieldhouse Friday night.

The Bruins (11-7, 5-4 NWC) got the first possession in overtime, and they missed a 3-pointer. Gabriel Chaikin grabbed the defensive rebound and was fouled bringing the ball up the floor. Chaikin knocked down both ensuing free-throws. Following another defensive stop, Chaikin hit a layup to put Puget Sound (RECORD) up by four with 3:50 remaining.

From that bucket, however, George Fox went on a 6-0 run to take a 77-75 lead. The Loggers got big defensive stand, and Jimmy Wohrer was fouled driving in the middle of the lane. Wohrer made his first free-throw, but he missed the second.

The Bruins grabbed the defensive rebound and were immediately fouled for a 1-and-1 opportunity. George Fox missed the first attempt, and Cal Hansen grabbed the rebound with 18 second left and Puget Sound down by one point.

On the offensive end, Hansen had a look at a contested layup, but it came up short and the Bruins walked away with a win.

Hansen posted a season-high 18 rebounds against the Bruins. Wohrer led the Loggers in scoring with 18 points, and Stellan Roberts posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Chaikin (14 points) and Max Basile (11 points) also scored in double figures.

Both of Puget Sound's games against George Fox this season ended in an overtime loss.

The Loggers return to Memorial Fieldhouse to host Linfield Friday, Feb. 1, at 8 p.m.
