TACOMA, Washington – Jimmy Wohrer tied the Puget Sound career record for made 3-pointers, and the men's basketball team beat Pacific, 110-101, in Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday night.
Wohrer entered the game needing six 3-pointers to match Chase Curtis' (2002-06) school record of 275 3-pointers. The Logger senior connected on six of eight attempts from distance, totaling 24 points in the Puget Sound (10-11, 6-6 NWC) victory.
Gabriel Chaikin also shot the ball well from beyond the arc against Pacific (8-13, 2-10 NWC). He led all players in scoring with 26 points after shooting 5-for-7 from 3-point range. Stellan Roberts flirted with a triple-double, as his night consisted of 10 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds.
Cal Hansen recorded his sixth double-double of the season by netting 18 points to go along with 11 rebounds. He also added four assists and three blocks.
Although the Loggers led by as much as 75-53 early in the second half, the Boxers' high-tempo style of play kept them in the game. Pacific cut its deficit to just one possession, 104-101, with a minute left in regulation. However, a backdoor cut and layup by Roberts, followed by defensive stops and free-throws by Chaikin, put the Boxers away.
The Loggers are on the road next week, starting with an 8 p.m. tipoff at Lewis & Clark Friday, Feb. 8, at 8 p.m.
