Roberts has another 20-point game, but the Loggers lost to the Knights

TACOMA, Washington – Stellan Roberts reached 20 points for the third time in three games, but the Puget Sound men's basketball team lost its home-opener, 77-61, against Warner Pacific as part of the first day of the Doug McArthur Classic in Memorial Fieldhouse Friday night.

Roberts shot 8-for-16 from the floor and added five rebounds and five assists. Freshman John Misel had the best game of his young career, scoring 12 points to go with eight rebounds. Max Basile filled the stat sheet with eight points, six rebounds, six assists, a block, and a steal.

Puget Sound won the battle on the boards, 35-32, but the Loggers struggled to shoot from distance. The Loggers (1-2) finished 9-for-30 (30-percent) from 3-point range, while the Knights (4-2) shot 13-for-32 (40.6-percent) from beyond the arc.

Puget Sound kept pace with Warner Pacific for most of the first half. A 3-pointer by CJ Geathers gave the Loggers a 13-11 lead four minutes into the game, but the Knights answered with a trey of their own.

Just two minutes later, Basile nailed a 3-pointer to tie the score, 16-16, but from that point Warner Pacific went on a 10-2 run. The Knights' lead grew to 33-23, but freshmen duo Tyrese Yussuf-Willis and Misel hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the deficit to four points.

Warner Pacific closed out the first half with an 8-0 run to carry a 41-29 lead into the locker room. The Knights led by double-digits for the entire second half.

Puget Sound aims to bounce back against Chapman Saturday, Nov. 23, with a 6 p.m. tipoff in Memorial Fieldhouse.
