Men's basketball hosts two games after Thanksgiving

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's basketball team aims to feast after Thanksgiving when the Loggers host Northwest (Nov. 30) and Wisconsin-Eau Claire (Dec. 1) in Memorial Fieldhouse.

The Classic

Puget Sound opened its home slate by hosting Warner Pacific and Chapman as part of the Doug McArthur Classic (Nov. 22-23). Although the Loggers lost to the Knights, 77-61, Puget Sound bounced back with a 65-68 win over the Panthers.

 

Logger of the Week

Senior Stellan Roberts was named the Logger of the Week after showing off his versatility in the McArthur Classic. He averaged 17.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and shot 48.0-percent from the floor between the two games.

 

Freshmen showing up

Puget Sound freshmen are already making an impact just a few games into their collegiate career. John Misel scored 12 points against Warner Pacific, and hit a clutch 3-pointer that broke a 58-58 tie with 19 seconds left in regulation against Chapman. Tyrese Yussuf-Willis scored a game-high 23 points against Chapman, and he is averaging 14.8 points per game so far this season. Grant Erickson is playing 26.0 minutes per game while shooting 57.1-percent from the floor. His 5.0 rebounds per game is tied with Max Basile for second on the team.

 

Taking care of business

Puget Sound averages just 14.0 turnovers per game, which is the best mark in the Northwest Conference. The Loggers are one of four conference teams averaging more assists (15.3) than turnovers.

 

Scouting Northwest (4-3)

The Eagles out of the NAIA's Cascade Collegiate Conference lost to NWC member Linfield, 78-71 (Nov. 17). Hussayn Ford has six double-doubles in seven games, including a 15-point, 16-rebound game against Linfield. The Eagles are averaging 92.6 points and 43.0 rebounds per game. They are shooting 51.4 percent from the floor and 40.6 percent from distance.

 

Scouting Wisconsin-Eau Claire (5-1)

The BluGolds out of the NCAA D-III Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference are off to a great start this season, including a 77-75 win over NWC member Whitworth. Four players average double digits in scoring, led by 20.5 points from Cole Rabedeaux. Carter Brooks averages 7.2 rebounds per game. As a team, the BluGolds are shooting 49.7-percent from the floor.
