Loggers set to host Whitman and Whitworth

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's soccer team is set to host Whitman and Whitworth this weekend. Sunday's game will be senior day.

Puget Sound's Last Weekend

The Loggers went 2-0 this past weekend, defeating Linfield and Willamette. Josh Sonico and Sam Zisette each picked up a goal and an assist as Puget Sound defeated Linfield 2-0 on Saturday. The team then beat Willamette on Sunday in double overtime on an own goal.

Senior Game

Sunday's match against Whitworth will serve as the Loggers' senior game. Seniors Carlos Soria, Riley Chien, Daniel Kirsch, Sam Zisette, and Kenechi Agha will be honored before the game for their contributions to the Puget Sound program.  

Logger Leaders

Josh Sonico leads Puget Sound with six goals, while Cameron Lorek and Sam Zisette both have scored five times. Zisette also leads the squad with seven assists, which is also good for most in the Northwest Conference. Goalkeeper Daniel Kirsch is 9-4 on the year, making 42 saves with a 1.45 goals-against average.  

Student-Athlete of the Week

Josh Sonico was named the Northwest Conference Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 22. The senior scored three goals in the Loggers victory over Pacific. He also assisted Zisette's golden goal in overtime of Puget Sound's win against George Fox. Cameron Lorek then won the same award Oct. 6 after scoring in both weekend games. His goal against Linfield on Sunday was the game-winner.

Scouting the Missionaires (2-9-1, 2-6-1 NWC)

Whitman College is located in Walla Walla, Washington, and the team competes in the Northwest Conference. Most recently, the Missionaries defeated George Fox 2-1. Daniel Kim, Ben Freedman, and Park Harmon all have scored two goals in 2015, while Kim has two assists. Goalkeeper Milo Cantor is 2-6-1, making 31 saves with a 1.51 GAA.

Scouting the Pirates (12-0-1, 8-0-1 NWC)

Whitworth University is located in Spokane, Washington, and the team competes in the Northwest Conference. Most recently, the Pirates defeated George Fox (6-0) and Pacific (3-0). Karl Muelheims leads the team and the Northwest Conference with 15 goals. Rylan Berriman and Jonah Snyder had each tallied four assists this season. Goalkeeper Timmy Costa (11-0-1) has made 36 saves and has eight shutouts, while putting up a 0.25 goals-against average.
