  • Umbaugh recaps the Loggers' overseas trip
    August 22, 2019
As stated by some person before my time, “All good things must come to an end.” Wrapping up this tour of England has been bittersweet for many of us. The bonds that we strengthened on this trip will undoubtedly carry over into the start of our season, as will Angel Herrera-Lores’ weird, semi-British accent he mysteriously picked up in the past nine days. The final days of our tour consisted of what any true footballing (soccer) fan would consider to be heaven. We arrived at St. George’s Park, home of the English national teams, in the early afternoon. Seeing those pristine football pitches (soccer fields, c’mon) lined up as far as the eye could see, really drove home to the entire team that, for once, we were standing in the birthplace of the sport we have all dedicate ourselves too. The facilities at St. George’s were equally breathtaking. The complex had 12 full size fields, an indoor pool with a retractable floor and built in water treadmill, fully stocked gym and locker rooms, and an indoor field that was in a building the size of our Memorial Fieldhouse.
