Rival Lutes Get Past Loggers, 6-3

TACOMA, Wash. - Taking on their fifth regionally-ranked opponent of the season, the Puget Sound Loggers fell short against their cross-town rivals, dropping a Northwest Conference men's tennis match to Pacific Lutheran, 6-3, on Wednesday evening at UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.

In doubles play, the Colorado duo of Mike Cutter (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) and Nick Kelley (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver) fought mightily against the nationally-ranked duo of Joel Trudel and Justin Peterson but the 12th-ranked doubles team defeated the Logger pair, 8-4.

Puget Sound did manage to take one of the doubles matches as Scooter Sabel (Sun Valley, Idaho/Community School) and Andrew Timmons (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) earned an 8-6 win over Scott Sheldon and Kevin Floyd in the third spot.

In doubles play, the Lutes were able to win the top four spots to clinch the match but the Loggers didn't go down without a fight.  Sabel earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Brent Smoots in the fifth spot while Ben Miller (Silverdale, Wash./Central Kitsap) won his fourth straight match with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Brian Higginbotham at the sixth position.

The Loggers hit the courts again on Saturday when they play host to Pacific (Ore.) at UPS Tennis Pavilion.
