TACOMA, Washington – Jessica Gott and Amanda Fehr recorded runs batted in, as the Logger softball team split their doubleheader with Lewis & Clark on Sunday afternoon at Curtis High School. Puget Sound fell in the first game, 3-0, before earning a 3-1 victory in the second.
Jessica Gott (1-for-4) recorded two runs batted in for the Loggers (6-6, 3-3 NWC), while Amanda Fehr (2-for-4) also had an RBI. Erica Gott was 3-for-6 on the day, while Amber Popovich (1-for-5), Jenna Llamas (1-for-3), Jaci Young (1-for-6), and Mckenna Johnson (1-for-5) each recorded a hit.
Lewis & Clark 3, Puget Sound 0
The Loggers and Pioneers (1-9, 1-5 NWC) played three scoreless innings to open the day. In the top of the fourth inning, Lewis & Clark broke through, scoring two runs on four hits. The Pioneers would add another run in the fifth inning on a Tiana Rosario RBI single. The Loggers got runners on base in the fifth and sixth innings, but were unable to bring anyone around, and fell, 3-0, in the opener.
Puget Sound 3, Lewis & Clark 1
The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
The Loggers responded immediately, taking the lead in the bottom of the first. After Amber Popovich and Erica Gott singled, Jessica Gott hit a triple to left center field to put Puget Sound up 2-1. Later in the inning, Amanda Fehr drove a ball to left center field to drive in Jessica Gott for an extra insurance run.
The two-run lead would be all the Loggers needed, as they held L&C scoreless through the final six frames.
Erica Gott (3-2) earned the complete game victory for the Loggers. She gave up one-run in 7.0 innings, while striking out two.
The Loggers will now travel to Tucson, Arizona, to play five games over the week. First up is Wisconsin-Platteville on Tuesday, March 14, at 12:30 p.m.
