Dressel named Puget Sound softball head coach

TACOMA, Washington – Kara Dressel returns to Puget Sound as head coach of the Logger softball team, Director of Athletics Amy Hackett announced.

Dressel brings with her more than six  years of coaching experience at the collegiate level, five of which she spent serving as the assistant coach at Puget Sound (2007-2012).  She was also the head assistant coach for College of the Redwoods, where she worked primarily with pitchers.

"We are fortunate to have Kara back involved with Logger Softball," said Hackett. "We know of her talents in developing pitchers from her previous work with our program, and we have seen the progress of the program at Gig Harbor under her leadership."

Dressel guided the Loggers to a solid season in the circle in 2009. Puget Sound posted a 3.90 team ERA, led by Aryn Grause's 3.53 ERA through 73.1 innings. Auriel Sperberg finished that season with a 3.95 ERA through 164.2 innings.

"I would like to thank Amy Hackett for the opportunity to lead the softball program and work with the dedicated student-athletes," said Dressel.  "I appreciate the years spent at Gig Harbor High School, which has led to the opportunity to return to Puget Sound."

For the past six years Dressel coached at Gig Harbor High School,  serving as the head coach since 2014. She has also been involved with coaching at the club level with Lady Narrows Softball.

Dressell received her undergraduate degree from Humboldt State, where she was also a member of its softball team. She completed master's work at Seattle University in the Sports Administration and Leadership program.
