Logger women beat Whitworth; men suffer first NWC loss

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's swim team beat Whitworth, 117-87, in a Northwest Conference dual on Friday night. The Logger men fell to the Pirates, 113-92.


The Puget Sound women improve to 6-2 overall and 5-0 in the NWC, while the men suffer their first conference loss of the season (5-3, 4-1 NWC).

Nick Mitchell picked up two individual first-place finishes for the Loggers and helped a relay team to a win. Mitchell won the 800 freestyle (8:38.73) and 400 freestyle (4:15.02). The 400 freestyle relay team comprised of Mitchell, Evan Hamamoto, Matt Goldberg, and Mitch Kilgore won the event in 3:41.05.

Kilgore won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.93, and he also placed first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.35.

Melissa Norrish won the 800 freestyle for the Puget Sound women, timing in at 9:24.93. She placed first individually in two more events: 200 individual medley (2:26.74) and 400 freestyle (4:37.20).

The Loggers claimed the top three spots in the 50 freestyle thanks to Alex Koga (28.71), Lauren Kochanowski (28.74), and Michaela Metzler (28.85).

Puget Sound competes in its last home meet of the year when it hosts Whitman on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Loggers will honor their seniors before the start of the meet.
