Puget Sound honors seniors as Loggers host Whitman

TACOMA, Washington – Puget Sound honored its senior swimmers as the Loggers hosted Whitman in a Northwest Conference dual on Saturday afternoon. It was the last home meet for Puget Sound this season.


Before the start of the meet, the Loggers recognized seniors Lauren Kochanowski, Madison Markel, Michaela Metzler, Melissa Norrish, Jared Fisk, Brian Gerrity, and Clayton Jacobson.

The Puget Sound women beat Whitman, 103-102, to remain undefeated in the conference (7-2, 6-0 NWC). The Logger men (5-4, 4-2 NWC) lost to Whitman, 134-71.

The Logger women opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay after Sam Anders, Anne Shirey, Auri Clark, and Metzler timed in at 2:07.91. Metzler picked up a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle (1:03.39), and she and Kochanowski helped Puget Sound to second place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:53.36).

Norrish continued her strong season by winning the 200 freestyle (2:09.71), 100 butterfly (1:06.66), and 400 freestyle (4:43.53).

Nick Mitchell, a freshman, continues to turn heads as he won the 1,500 freestyle (16:45.87) and placed second in the 400 freestyle (4:20.54). Fisk placed second in the 100 butterfly (59.81), and he helped the 200 medley relay team to a second-place finish (1:54.14). Jacobson anchored the second-place 200 freestyle team that timed in at 1:38.48.

The Loggers return to the pool against crosstown rival Pacific Lutheran on Saturday, Jan. 31.
