FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Kathryn Flyte won the 5k to lead the Puget Sound track & field teams at the Luau Invitational on Saturday. Josh Seekatz was also an event winner in the steeplechase.
Flyte turned in a personal-best time of 18:36.32 to capture the event title by more than 15 seconds. The Loggers' Taili Ni came in after flight for a 1-2 Logger finish. Seekatz ran a 10:05.03 to win the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Matt Klein and Jon Lee turned in some more top performances for the men's team. Klein's 15:34.25 in the 5k placed him second in the event as did Lee's triple jump of 13.03 meters (42-feet, 9-inches). Steven Coburn also took third in the 400 meter hurdles with a 1:00.30.
Allanah Whitehall and Alicia Burns were a pair of top performers on the women's team as both took third in their respective events. Whitehall was third in the 200 meter dash with a 26.44. Burns took third in both the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run. She finished with times of 1:02.50 and 2:23.78, respectively.
The Loggers' multi-event athletes did not compete this weekend as they prepare for the NWC Multi-Event Championships this Monday and Tuesday at Pacific Lutheran. Joe Cerne, Cameron Braithwaite and Myles McDonald will represent the men and Emily Sheldon will represent the women.
