ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Alicia Burns and Sierra Grunwald were the event winners for the Puget Sound track & field teams in their final tuneup before the NWC Championships. The Logger men's team took third while the women's team was fourth at the Spike Arlt invitational.
Alicia Burns came away with the event win in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:24.93. Sierra Grunwald was just off her best time this year with a winning time of 4:55.22 in the 1500 meter run.
Allanah Whitehall had a personal-best time of 12.40 in the 100 meter dash to finish second in the event. However, her time was the top time in the NWC so far this season.
The Logger men's team finished the day without an event win but had six third place finished to propel themselves to third place as a team. Joe Cerne was third in both the 400 meter hurdles and the pole vault. His hurdles time of 58.13 was his best of the year.
Todd Detweiller took third in the 400 meter run while Bryan Soto also took third in the 800 meter run. Josh Seekatz was third in the 1500 meter run and just one second off his best time of the season. Jon Lee was just over a foot shy of his personal-best and NWC-leading triple jump to take third today.
The Loggers head down to the NWC Championships next weekend in Salem, Ore. With one more qualifier coming in at the Spike Arlt Invite, they will send 21 men and 15 women to the championship meet.
